About Foothill
Foothill Lawn Service Inc. - Irrigation,  was started in 1987 doing landscape installation, maintenance and irrigation. In 1993 Foothill Lawn Service Irrigation stopped all landscape services and devoted itself to irrigation. Our strong personnel management team with over 50 years combined experience enables us to offer expert installation of Rain Bird, Toro, Irritrol, Hunter, Vista, Kichler, Cast and other well know reliable products.

Kenny Shiflett, the current owner of Foothill Irrigation was born and raised in Albemarle County. He attended Embry Riddle Aeronautical in Florida in 1985-86-87 where he received his pilots license. Kenny returned Albemarle County in 1988 where he returned to the local irrigation contractor that he had worked for the Summer before he went to Florida.

In 1989 he began working at Foothill for then owner Peter Gildersleeve. Kenny began running the day to day operations of the company due to Mr. Gildersleeves passing in 1999. In 2004 Kenny purchased the company from Mrs. Gildersleeve. He has continued to be a hands on owner who works in the field in all aspects of the business from sales and service to hand digging with the crews on installations.

Kenny received his Cross Connection Tester's Certificate also commonly known as Back Flow Inspection Certificate in October 1993, he earned his Certified Landscape Irrigation Auditor status in February 2007 and attended the Toro School of Business, University of Notre Dame Indiana.

On March 18, 2008, Kenny became a WaterSense Partner (WaterSense is a partnership program sponsored by the EPA to promote water-efficient products and practices across the country). You can find out more information about WaterSense at the WaterSense website www.epa.gov/watersense

Bert Cottrell, Service Manager for Foothill Irrigation since 2005 has been in the irrigation industry for over 26 years. Bert began his career in 1981 working for an irrigation company out of Toms River, New Jersey. In 1991, Bert moved to Amherst County (and later in 1992 moved to Nelson County) in Virginia where he continued working for the next 14 years in the irrigation field for a Charlottesville company. Bert then joined forces with Kenny Shiflet in 2005 where he currently uses his irrigation expertise as Service Manager for Foothill Irrigation Lawn Service, Inc. Since moving to Virginia, Bert has completed several courses and received several certifications within the irrigation industry.
